Tilt Kids Festival 2016

April 4, 2016 | By French Culture Arts

The first edition of Tilt Kids Festival ended on April 3, 2016, after a month of outstanding performances, exhibitions and workshops, featuring artists from France and around the world.

Initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), the festival brought to thousands of children and families in New York the opportunity to let their imagination go wild!

Both institutions embarked on this new adventure with a network of leading cultural venues: The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Museum of Food + Drink, NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, The New Victory Theater, and The Invisible Dog Art Center.

Philosophy and music, circus and magic, design, dance and gastronomy came together in a series of ambitious and playful events specially curated for the audiences of today and tomorrow.

Cabaret de Magie Nouvelle by Cie 14:20 was presented for the first time to a young audience awed by this "new magic".

Le Bestiaire, an exhibition by French designer Ionna Vautrin invited children to slip into the skin of all kind of animals during associated workshops.

L'Immédiat, by Camille Boitel, took adults and kids alike to an hour of a circus-theater mayhem, in which seven acrobat-adventurers defy a tsunami of unstable forces with optimism, dark humor and breathtaking physical skills.

Anima, a collaborative project led by Prune Nourry, opened up a world of myth and magic inspired by the Mayan culture. The exhibition is on view until April 14.

THE TOTAL PEOPLE by 600 Highwaymen explored a radical approach to making live art, constructing events that create intimacy among a group of strangers.

The special event Carousel of Ideas gathered budding intellectuals around philosophy groups led by Simon Crithcley; presented to a mesmerised audience Ballet, by Jérôme Bel; invited kids to travel to Morrocco with choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen; and welcomed Miguel Gutierrez who led children into a happy trance during DEEP AEROBICS.

Carnival of the Animals by Circa revisited the musical suite by French composer Camille Saint-Saens presenting a gravity-defying celebration of life on earth.

Oh Boy! by Olivier Letellier confronts young audiences to some of live’s most devastating events and turn the story into a brilliant play full of hope.

Cool Cooking with Wylie Dufresne led kids intoan innovative lab filled with colors and flavors.

Orchestra of Life by DUO1804 created an immersive experience together with children full of energy and life celebration.

Curated by Lili Chopra and Violaine Huisman, Tilt Kids Festival was presented by the French Institute Alliance Française and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S.
