Air will be performing in Santa Barbara on June 24 and in Los Angeles on June 25. This will mark the end of their American tour "twentyears", their first since 2010. In honor of their 20-year milestone, Air released their first anthology last July.
The light but dense electro-acoustic pop of the band created in the mid-90’s influenced several generations and left its mark on the sound of its time. Along the way, Air has produced cult albums (Moon Safari in 1998, The Virgin Suicides in 2000), clever pop LPs (Talkie Walkie in 2004), rich experimentations (10 000 Hz Legend in 2001) and various collaborations (with Beck and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Charlotte Gainsbourg on her 5:55 album, Jarvis Cocker…).

Since they met in a Versailles high-school in the 1980’s before becoming Air in the mid-90’s, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel have never stopped claiming the volatile aspect of their music. Each project constitutes its own and unique planet.

One of the main representatives of the infamous « French touch » of the 90s, the retrospective proposed here by the band embodies the core of this artistic trend – the search for a retro futurist atmosphere, a purified and minimalist aesthetic and a luminous psychedelic universe. Far from being out of tunes, this slightly nostalgic journey in the timeless aerial and aquatic space of the band’s musical world seems more than ever needed in those more difficult times. Defining his artistic project, Nicolas Godin thus evokes his wish to create  “an ideal world liberated from social, physical, psychological tensions” where art “harmonizes, pacifies and heals”. This retrospective is an opportunity to revisit this oneiric world, and unique atmosphere of spatial and aquatic weightlessness.
