One of the most remarkable figures of contemporary Lebanese literature, Charif Majdalani is coming to Colorado and California this spring, in April and May. He will be giving a conference on Francophone literature at the University of Colorado, Boulder, on April 27 and at the Alliance Française of Denver on April 29, before finishing his American tour with the day of Francophonie at the UC Irvine, on May 1.

The author of five novels written in French and marked by his Lebanese origins, Charif Majdalani’s work is situated at the crossroad of various literary and cultural influences. Shapen by both the model of the « great epic rides of Guimaraes Rosa and T. H. Lawrence » and the « solitary wanderings of Cormac Mac Carthy’s characters », he defines his literary project as the search for « the most unexpected and surprising combinations ». As such, his novels read as both a reflection on « francophonie » and on the various forms of intercultural dialogue, and were rewarded by the 2008 François Mauriac Prize from the Académie Française as well as the Prix Tropiques.

Make sure not to miss this opportunity to meet the writer himself and to be present at one of his conferences, in Boulder, Denver, or Los Angeles!
