I hope that you had an excellent holiday season surrounded by family and friends.
And now for new beginnings. Bonne année!
As the New Year begins, I look forward to more opportunities for transatlantic collaboration, and I keep the words of the great American feminist artist Judy Chicago* in mind. She said, “I set my sights upon becoming the kind of artist who would make a contribution to art history.”
I believe that we can all be architects of creative collaboration and make a real mark in the history of France and America’s longstanding friendship. Just as Foucault saw himself as an archaeologist of discourse, we can be great explorers of cultural exchange. We can do this through theater, dance, books, art, the digital sphere, and of course the personal relationships we cultivate.
I send you my best wishes for the New Year.
*This spring, with the support of the French Embassy in the US, theorist Géraldine Gourbe will delve into the oeuvre of Judy Chicago and draw links between minimalist and feminist periods in the city of Chicago. I hope you’ll join us for the exhibitions that result from this fascinating research.
